The program included an internship requirement, which I fulfilled with the American Library in Paris as a Reference Intern.

Lake Forest College

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), History, Honors

Minor in French

2010 - 2014

My studies included European, American, and Japanese history, with the majority of classes largely focused on WWII; French language, literature and cinema; and two year-long independent study projects on WWII. I graduated with honors in history and made the Dean's List for the academic year of 2013-2014.

Examples of My Work

Master's Dissertation

The Construction of Napoleonic Military Culture: Napoleon Bonaparte's Propagation of Military Motivation and Troop Morale

My Master's Thesis examined three different yet interrelated themes: Napoleon’s utilization of propaganda in promoting the surrounding myth of him as a great military commander, an analysis of his rhetorical style utilized in his print propaganda publications, and the experiences and ‘la vie militaire’ of the soldiers of the Grande Armée.

Senior Thesis

The Complex Japanese American Experience During WWII: the Internment Camps, the Exceptional Case of Hawaii, and the Japanese American Segregated Military Units

I chose the option of completing a thesis during my final undergraduate year. I undertook original scholarly research that culminated in a formal written dissertation and oral examination evaluated by a committee of professors and published digitally online and in the College's Library.

My Senior Thesis examined the social, economic, political, cultural and psychological factors affecting Japanese Americans during WWII, with particular emphasis on those interned, the special case of Hawaii and the military enlistment of Japanese Americans in the US Armed Forces.
